how to clean graniteSometimes homeowners are hesitant to install granite countertops during a kitchen remodel, thinking that granite is difficult to keep clean. Granite countertops must be cared for properly to maintain their beauty. Luckily, that care can be completed quickly and easily with the right tools and knowledge. Here is how to maintain gorgeous granite countertops in your kitchen.

Daily Cleaning:

Wipe down your counters with a dry cloth every day to remove dust. If needed, use a bit of water to remove any stubborn dirt. Granite should never be cleaned with harsh cleaners or chemical agents. If you find that you have a particularly tough stain, make a poultice (get our recipe). Spread the poultice on the stain, cover it with a piece of plastic wrap, and let it sit overnight. Wash the stain away with water in the morning.

Once Yearly:

Granite countertops have to be maintained correctly to live a long, useful life. When you notice that water no longer beads on the countertop, it’s time to re-seal it. Make sure that any stains are removed with a poultice and that you give the countertops a good cleaning prior to sealing. Any dirt remaining on the stone will be sealed in, reducing the beauty of your counters.

Major Damage:

If your granite is damaged, contact a professional dealing in stone-care for repair. Any shifting or cracking must be repaired by someone who has an understanding of the stone. Do not try to undertake major damage on your own; you run a high risk of worsening the problem.

Do not be intimidated by granite countertops. Granite is a gorgeous addition to any kitchen, lending a look of luxury and opulence to your space. With minimal daily care and yearly maintenance, your granite countertops will maintain their good looks for many years. Contact us for further information or answers to questions and concerns.
