Planning a home renovation in the new year? Something to think about if you are planning to use marble or other natural stone…make sure you pick a stone that matches your lifestyle.
For example, if you cook a lot, granite is probably a better choice for your kitchen. Sure marble looks great, but it is often more sensitive to acids and requires a fair amount of upkeep. Marble, Travertine and Onyx can spell trouble for an active kitchen.
Granite on the other hand is very hard, durable and upkeep is simpler and less expensive to maintain. Also consider using a darker stone, light stone can expose staining a lot faster.
If you are working with a designer, they may try to sway you towards a particular stone because it is “in” or looks great, but if you are going to have to spend a fortune to take care of it, it may not be worth it.
