Home 9 Carrara 9 Marble & Granite Fabrication Process

Recently on our trip to Carrara, Italy, we had the good fortune to visit one of the oldest fabricators of fine marble and granite in the area. Carlo Telara, was established in 1925 and not only quarries the stone, they cut the blocks into slabs and process them into finished products ready to be shipped all over the world. One of the most fascinating things we saw was the cutting of the blocks. Using a combination of diamond plated blades and continuous water jets, the slabs are cut perfectly to size. They are then transferred to be honed to the desired finish, matte, semi-gloss or high shine. It was a very impressive visit!
