What is Slate?
A fine-grained gray, green, or bluish metamorphic rock that is easily split into smooth, flat pieces used in a wide variety of applications including flooring and flagging because of its durability and attractive appearance.
Restoration and Refinishing Slate
Slate is natural stone that comes in several different textures. There is a smooth slate and a cleft finish slate, which has a rough finish. Slate is a porous stone and needs to be properly cleaned and sealed after installation.
There are several different ways to finish slate. There are color enhancers, topical coatings such as wax, penetrating sealers, and others. The type of sealant you use will determine what type of finished look you will achieve. You can achieve a gloss finish, matte finish, or a low luster finish, depending upon your preference.
