Well, after a short burst of warm weather, winter is back! Do you need a refresher on the best way to take care of your natural stone floors? If so, we’ve got your back and have put together some quick tips so that you can take the necessary steps to protect your beautiful stone floors during the upcoming months full of rain and snow.
Ask guests to take their shoes off upon entering your home. All the sand and the salt and slush on roadways, driveways and walkways can wreak havoc on marble and natural stone floors. Additionally, the grit from the sand and salt can scratch, etch or erode the finish off your floor. Don’t feel comfortable having people remove their shoes? That’s ok! Cover floors with decorative seasonal mats and rugs during the particularly messy weather for people to wipe their feet.
As much as you may want to, try to resist mopping. The water will make it more difficult to remove the sand and dirt. Instead wait until the floors are dry and gently sweep the grit and dirt off your floors to prevent scratching.
